Last day with pups...sigh

14 January 2006 at 5:53 p.m.

Today is the last day with the little puppers, as tomorrow they will come to take Mom and babes to the center for weaning.

As much as i love these little sweeties, Bardot has really had enough by now. For the last 4-5 days, she has really done a lot of growling when they come to suckle. I figure they are too hard on her teats, and for the past week they have gradually been started them on formula/puppy food. They are now eating half their "normal" daily ration, split up into four times a day.

They take up a lot of time, I have to admit that too. The times they are awake, they are usually running around the downstairs. Both Cherry and Kiwi are pretty well paper-trained, and will run off the carpet to squat on the paper to pee. Peach knows not to do it on the carpet, but the floor is fair game to her. But somehow, even so, and with only three puppies, I often find puddles here and there too. Life is a contant ballet of spreading papers and picking them up, spraying disinfectant and mopping. With hugs and cuddles all along.

The three are such distinct personalities. I have my hopes set on Kiwi, the youngest and the darkest. She is the go-getter. The first to climb out of the box, the first to climb stairs, the first to be paper-trained. She has a distinct, sparkling personality, and I hope she goes to a good, experienced home that won't "ruin" her.

Peach, no-2 born and the lightest, almost snow-white. She has beautiful eyes, and the markings on it make her looks so sad. She is not shy, but she is laid-back and less sure of herself than the others.

Cherry, the first-born, is in between. In between in color and in between in personality.

All three though, are wonderful pups. They explore and run and play. Honey has so warmed up to them. Whereas a week ago she would run from any contact from them, all of a sudden on Sunday evening, she seemed to realize that these three make wonderful playthings.

There is nothing so wonderful as sitting with a warm ball of puppy in your arms. Or puppies running after you as you walk around the house. Or the funny, desperate way they attack their bowl of food, swarming all over the food, paws included. Or trying to close the front door when three pups are trying their darndest to go out of it. (You need four arms for this!!)

Somehow, I did not feel the connection with Bardot's first pup, Venus. Certainly not with her fosters last litter, as they were so alike, and so like their other sisters, that I had no way of keeping track of them after they left here. But this time, my three little babies will all receive their own individual litter letter (I believe it will be "K") and they are so easily distinguished one from the other, that I hope I can keep up with their future.

I have tons of photos in the camera that need downloading, and I want to take some "portrait shots" of the three babies. When they are added, look for the "photos added" next to the title of this entry in the archives.
