The teaching year is drawing to a close. Tonight I have an "end of year" party with a group of 3 6-yr-old boys, native language English. Although I did do a Helen Doron course with them, at the end I felt like they were rather bored. Also, they didn't like any of the stories, which were HD's versions (feminist, ecologist) of stories such as The Frog Prince (the princess preferred the talking frog), Hansel and Gretel (thw witch turns vegetarian and plants an organic garden) and the Princess and the Pea (they get married, but the princess refuses to stay at home and be "feminine" and goes for sports, etc.) They actually HATED the Princess and the Pea, so I got them going on the "Little Red Hen" and they shall perform that tonight.
I really should get busy getting stuff ready. I have maskes and a red feather boa for the hen and other animals, and we are going to "surprise" the parents by serving pizza when the Hen goes to get her bread out of the oven. I want to make up some fun games and need to sort out my bag of gifts to find something appropriate for the little boys. At least HD has supplied frisbee gifts and certificates.
Other students, who should have ended this week have been sick or busy with rehearsals, so some parties have been postponed till next week.
this morning found me, once again, pretending to be training Honey as an S&R dog. OK, I am getting rather bored with the whole thing. Especially since I have to spend 35 minutes combing the burrs out of her hair when we get back home. Wednesday she gets a haircut!
My garden has been rehauled and redesigned. The grass is still green, but not as green as when I was watring it 3 times a day! However, 2 times a week is too little, I see, and I upped it to 3 times and it is regaining it's lush color.
I made a to-scale drawing of the garden, and spent a couple of days last week installing anew the drip system. So that is all done for now, and I marked on the drawing every spot where I have water dripping and am slowly and surely buying plants to fill it in. Alot of the area is shaded, given the amount of trees (5) I have in such a small area, and it takes a lot of thought to the placement of shade-loving or sun-loving plants. I wanted to buy a cute little wheelbarrow planter, but it was 200 shekels, and i thought I could easily make one myself out of some packing crates and an old bicycle wheel. So there is a project in the making.
I am having my "regular" problems with Odelia...i.e. TV and chores and when to go to bed at night. I started a "savings system" for tv hours. It is good and bad, but I won't go into it right now. It is time for breakfast.
