Books report

Here are some great books I have read lately....

The Lovely Bones, by Anne Sebold. A murdered girl tells her story. Amazingly written. (I believe I mentioned this before.)

Marley and Me: Life and Love with the World's Worst Dog, by John Grogan. After reading this book, I got down on my knees and kissed Bardot...she is a really well-behave dog compared to Marley!! Of course, most stories about dogs inevitably end requiring a box of tissues at hand. This was no exception.

These Foolish Things, by Deborah Moggach. I got this out of the library, mainly because of the Hindi look to the cover design, and the author's name. Dh loves reading stuff about India, and I try to find as much as I can from my local library's meager collection. This book turned out to be a real gem. All about the elderly, and dealing with retirement. Ooof....once this seemed like something so far away, and no it is looming in the future....50 years old is just around the doorstep for me...scary!

And now for a real dud....
The Da Vinci Code. This was awful. If you haven't read it, don't!!!! There are so many coincidences, dubious plot changes and twists that it is totally unbelievable. The "logic" used to figure out the "code" came pretty amazingly (and unrealistically) quickly and easily, too. Waste of time!!!!

However, herein lies a personal mystery. I was convinced that I had read this book before, and that the "code" involved some formula for some sort of non-destructable metal alloy. When all the blah blah about Mary Magdelene started, I couldn't remember this part of the story at all, and decided to read it again. (I borrowed it from one of my students' moms.) However, as I got into the book, is was totally not familiar. The weird thing is, is that it is driving me crazy what this other book (with the alloy formula) was. Any ideas?
