Starting to Work again...bah

07 August 2006 at 5:02 p.m.

August has been here for a week, and now parents are beginning to wake up that maybe their kids need help in English before the year starts.

I had two new students today (one an adult - doctor). The boy is actually better than I had expected, as I got the impression from his mom that he doesn't know his ABC's...but he does, and just needs practice in reading and i will get him doing some conversation. I sent his mom to rustle up a group of 6 kids for next year!

Today, another mom phoned...kid going into gr 6. Lousy marks, and maybe he "needs a few lessons before the year starts". These scare me...as I think they are looking for instant solutions. And, usually, kids with crappy marks are not motivated and/or have learning problems, and certainly can't be "solved" by a "few" lessons. Anyways, they are coming tomorrow at 5. I forgot to take her name and phone number, as I was engrossed in a game of Spider when she called.

Anyway, the $$ that I will be earning from these new students in August, will go directly towards the purchase of a new swing for the garden, that I want, Moshe doesn't, we "can't afford" due to municipal and dental outlays lately...but this "found" money will do nicely, thankyou. Anyways, he NEVER sits outside....but I do.

Yesterday I spent a good few hours helping A move small stuff, take her TV and stuff from refrigerator to a neighbor for storing, and dismanteling her bed. Today I spoke to her about 12 noon, and she said she had just about moved everything and was cleaning up the old place a bit.

She called me around 4pm..."just thinking out loud" and bewailing her move and realizing that she may be over her head...well, duh!
Personally, I don't know why she needs so many dogs and what's the point.

OK. nuff said.
