Fifty down - 70 to go!

28 November 2006 at 5:45 a.m.

Today heralds the beginning of my 51st year. Yes, folks, yesterday I turned 50!

The day was fine enough. In the morning I spent time running hither and thither doing what I had to do to fix the car to pass its annual test, and then, just as i was getting in line in the testing center, Ofra called that she was 20 minutes away, and so after getting my little sticker to stick on the windshield, I met her not 50 m away at the Aroma coffee shop where we had a lovely little lunch (she bought!)(Nice long sentence, eh???)The meeting HAD been planned in advance!

Moshe, who happened to be nearby, joined us, and then afterwards us woman-folk went over to the MOnday shuk, where I bought the final thing i needed to complete a package I want to send out (no hints here!) and a new leash for Honey.

We came home, I got ready for my "PLAYON" group, vacuumed the downstairs (even though it was my birthday...LOL...dust bunnies don't stop for anything!) and taught. Thereafter (after walking the dogs, that is) I had a lovely evening. Dd had gone to the po to pick up a package, which was a surprise from my good friend, Karen, and held 12 EATMORE chocolate bars, her annual calendar, a card, and a REAL handwritten letter of 4 pages!!! Wow!!! It is definately fun enjoying a real letter. The timing of those Eatmores is just perfect, as just last week, I ate the last of the stash Elgan sent me many moons ago. (Can you believe that, Elgan...they lasted till now!!??!!)

Moshe came home with a decadent (really!!!!) cake: three layers of mousse, meringue stuff, and cream, covered by a most exquisite chocolate icing. My mom baked me a pineapple-upside-down cake. Add to that an entire Eatmore, and that was my dinner. Ha!!

Ofra presented me with a set of 3 dvd's (My Fair Lady, Chicago, and Little Shop of Horrors) and Odelia with a lovely angel-adorned candle. My mom, a card, with a "promisory note" for a laptop, which she will pay for (yippee!!!) I got a few phonecalls (including Oded) and made a list with sis of friends (women only!) to invite for next Sat. night when others will celebrate with me at a coffee shop, and be intimidated into buying me some gifts.

(Well, I did not really want to phone friends to come celebrate, since it makes me uncomfortable that I am asking for gifts, but my sister pointed out that since they all chip in to buy me my share at the coffee shop, it takes them off the hook should they not want to buy a gift! So that makes me feel less greedy. But, well, I like getting presents anyways!! LOL)

Taking stock, I can say I don't really "feel" fifty, and i don't think I look it either. I am still functioning "reproductively-wise" and haven't started experiencing hot-flashes. I don't have THAT many wrinkles, i am still on the thinnish side (though the stomach flab refuses to budge, and if I lost 4-5 kg I wouldn't complain.)I walk daily (at least twice), can manage running in agility (though it leaves me out-of-breath sometimes) and can manage a 5-km hike with ease.

OK, the eyesight is a problem. But otherwise, there's not that much to complain. OK...6:07. Time to wake up Odelia and walk the poochies.

OH, I forgot, the first thing yesterday morning was actually spent calling the Jerusalem POst service department. Withough getting into details, here is a riddle (which I told the service representative!!)

"What do you call a business whose customers have its service phone number on their speed dial?"
Answer: "The Jerusalem Post"

(PS, she liked that one, and said she would relay it to her boss!)

bye for now!!
