My mom's in a nh

11 August 2008 at 6:32 a.m.

My mom is in a nursing home...(NH) for geriatric patients. Last night (actually, the night before) she woke me up with possible signs of a mini-stroke and I got frightened and took her to the hospital. Although she had high blood pressure and a very fast pulse, they found no evidence of any stroke. So that is good. The doctor, however, recommended sending her to a geriatric facility so that professional health-care givers could keep an eye on her, and get her organized with regards to eating, physical therapy and medications. I am not being successful, it seems, in these areas.

Although I have been looking after my mom for two months now,my overall feeling is that I am just not doing the right things. I am never sure when to take her to a doctor, how much supervision to give her re pills and exercise and meals. I want to leave her to her own decisions; i don't want to becomer "her mother." But she is not making proper decisions. She is not trying to eat properly and exercise at all. She claims she is in terrible pain, and can't sit to eat or even do some mild stretching exercises. In other words, she is just letting herself go.

Is this MY fault? My intrinsic feelings, always, is that it is.

I will go on later...I am ready for my morning coffee.
