The Role of Children in the Parent's Life

My mom told me a "story" today, and with my frame of mind, I look at it as a "lesson," although dh says it wasn't probably meant to be.

The story is this.

My aunt Tamara told my mom that she (my aunt) sorely misses her daughter-in-law. Her son and dil are now living in London as the son got a good job there.

My mom's reaction was, why did the son go to England, when he should have stayed here to look after his parents. My mom said that the son should have told his bosses that he can't go, because his mom and dad are old and he needs to be in Israel.

So I said to my mom: "What about the other two kids? They do have THREE sons."

"Really, you certainly don't expect the likes of S or D to look after their parents."

"So why should the 'good' son be the one that is punished?" was my answer.

The point being, my mom expects me to devote myself to her now.

Sigh.

Anyways, it is off to bed for me now...big day tomorrow. Will go put away the chicken, mushroom quiche and apple pie that I made today, and get myself into my pj's.
