Lament for Brownies

29 July 2009 at 9:37 p.m.

Last Saturday I gave a small luncheon party for my professor and a friend and their SOs. My professor's SO brought some lovely brownies, and later that day, I emailed said prof for the brownie recipe. Today I ate the last little square, and since I still hadn't heard from him...I sent him this (inspired by "Lament for Cocoa" by John Updike):

The last one's gone,
They were a treat,
So nice and rich
And subtly sweet.

And though I tried,
To make them last
And rationed them
They went too fast.

While brownies
I have made before,
These ones were special
Something more.

The fudgy texture
Was sublime,
I'd hate for them
To be one-time.

It seems an age
Did I request
The way to make them
From my guest.

So if you would,
Please send a mail
With how-to tips,
From fair Yael.
